Why does a laptop overheat?
It’s simple, your laptop has a very small ventilation port and a fan that pulls in air from bottom side of your system. Under perfect usage on hard surface it takes approximately 1 year for the ventilation system to get clogged up from particles and dust in air. This time can drastically reduce if enviornment is dusty or notebook is used on soft material like carpet, bed, pillow and even your lap affects how much particles get into the system. When vents get choked, there is no way for hot air to escape the case causing it to go back inside. Typical notebook computer will generate heat in excess of 70 degrees celsius and will cause permanent damage to internal components. Heat also slows down performance because electrical conductivity is reduced in higher temperatures. It is recommended to service vent system at least once a year. Preventative measures can be taken by using compressed air every six months to keep dust from clogging outlets, but once blocked, only professional service will bring temperatures back to normal.
